DIY Hot Oil Hair Treatment

So today we are going to talk about hot oil hair treatments. We absolutely love them. They are a great way to pamper yourself and make your hair look and feel amazing! So first thing let’s talk about oils and what you should use for different hair types.

DIY Hot Oil Hair Treatment

I get all of my ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs.

Coconut Oil: This is great for all hair types and really helps with dandruff.

Castor Oil: This adds strength to your hair so if you have damaged breaking hair use this. It also has drying properties so use it if you have oily hair.

Jojoba Oil: This is another great choice for those of you with oily hair because it is similar to our skin and hairs natural oils.

Sesame Oil: Has been used for thinning hair and to slow down hair loss it also adds great conditioning and shine to your hair.

Avocado Oil: This oil is very moisturizing and is great for dry or frizzy hair.

Olive Oil: This is great for moisturizing, deep conditioning, dandruff, and improving hair strength.

Sweet Almond Oil: This is a sealant locking in moisture. It also promotes hair growth and thickness and helps prevent hair loss.

Herbs

Now let’s talk about some herbs for your hot hair oil treatment and what they do.

To Strengthen HDuftkräuterair: Chamomile, horsetail, nettle, arnica, or burdock

To Clarify Hair: Rosemary, parsley, sage, witch hazel, or nutmeg

To Moisturize Hair: Calendula, chamomile, lavender, catmint, dried rose petals, or aloe.

To Stimulate Hair Growth: Peppermint, parsley, horsetail, sage, chamomile, ginger, and cinnamon

Now that you have picked out you oils and herbs here is how to infuse the oils with the herbs.

  1. Take about 3 Tablespoons of the oils you are going to use place them in a double boiler.
  2. Turn the heat on low.
  3. Add 1 Tablespoon of herbs into the oil.
  4. Let steep for thirty minutes.
  5. Strain into container using cheese cloth or coffee filter.
*Please note you do not have to infuse your oils you can just pick out some oils and follow through with the next step.

Apply Your Oils

What You’ll Need

  • Glass jar of oil blend
  • Bowl of hot water
  • Hot Towel
  • Shower Cap

Now take the jar of your oil blend and place it into the bowl of hot water to let your oils warm up. Next take some of your oil and start at the front of your head liberally massaging the oils into your scalp. Work your way back and massage for 3-5 minutes. This not only feels great but does great things for your hair and scalp. It stimulates the scalp to help promote hair growth and helps the oils sink in to create soft silky hair. Once you are done massaging you scalp you can start working the oils down the shafts of your hair.

Done with getting the oils all spread out in your hair? Now put on a shower cap and wrap the hot towel around your head. (You can warm the towel by soaking it in hot water then wringing it out.) Let it sit for 30 minutes up to 2 hours. Then hop in the shower go about your normal showering business and shampoo it out last. It will probably take 2 shampoos, do one with the water as hot as you can stand and the last one with the water close to or below body temperature (this helps get out the oils for some reason). Your probably won’t need to condition your hair afterward but you know your hair best and if you feel like you need to then do by all means condition it.

If you do not have the time or the ingredients to make your own hot oil treatment go to our custom order page and we can make one for you!

You definitely should. I am sure you know that you are constantly loosing hair but when you take a shower the hairs that you would normally lose through out the day get loosened up and fall out a bit easier so losing a bit of hair after a shower is pretty normal. You can also try adding some gelatin to your diet it strengthens hair and nails. If you feel like you are losing too much hair go to your doctor and get it checked out.

Just wanted to suggest adding Argan to your list of oils for hair and Juniper berry scalp cleanser.
Also, one of the best vitamins for hair (women only ) ,which we have tried out, is called Florisene
Another new product that seems to work well for men and women is from the NUHAIR brand.
I have also put a few articles on our website with details about natural treatments and hair loss.

Thanks for pointing out the Argan oil, I meant to put that in there to start with but somehow forgot.
I will check out the juniper berry. I heard of it before but have never used it, I am kind of anti-juniper because I had bad, bad experiences with those evil plants as a child, haha.
I have seen Florisene but it is a dietary supplement and I feel that people should always try and change their diets to get the proper nutrients before resorting to a supplement.
I will check out the NUHAIR and see if I can get anyone to test it out for me if I like what is in it.
I will be sure and check out those articles!
